The Second Mrs. Burton 1946 reviewThe Second Mrs. Burton radio show

The Second Mrs. Burton told the story of Terry Burton, a housewife living with her husband Stan in one of the small towns in America. Their life is just like any other people’s, perhaps with one little exception - Stan’s mother lives nearby and constantly interferes with their lives. While Stan is used to his domineering mother, for Terry the things are entirely different - she finds her mother-in-law difficult to live with, and often she feels like she is the second Mrs. Burton, after her mother-in-law. Luckily, she has a neighbour, Mrs. Miller, who can provide her with some advice on how to deal with the situation. With time, Stan’s sister, Marcia, showed up with her boyfriend Lew, which drew some attention of Mother Burton to her other child and brought some relief to Terry.

The Second Mrs. Burton premiered nationwide in 1946 and ran until 1960 when radio networks decided to cancel all remaining soap operas since television shows took over the audience. The show used the talents of Ethel Owen (later most recognizable as Mrs. Gibson in the Jackie Gleason show The Honeymooners), Teri Keane and Sharon Douglas.
