Soap operas

Soap operas were not invented for television audience, they were in the radio networks since early 1930s showing the life of other people through the medium of radio. Painted Dreams is considered to be the earliest "soap opera", the show debuted on 20th October 1930 on Chicago radio station WGN. Their primary audience were housewives, thus most of the sponsors were linked to the household products, thus the term "soap opera".
