Inner Sanctum Mystery was anthology of mystery, horror and suspense stories that each week took the audience to a different reality, in which different set of characters stumbled upon a spooky story. The variety of themes and gimmicks were involved to keep the series fresh throughout its long run (over 10 years with 511 episodes) and involving stars of early horror movies, like Boris Karloff, Peter Lorre or Bela Lugosi.

The show opening included famous creaking door that soon became the symbol of Inner Sanctum, together with witty, dark humour of the host, who introduced each of the stories.

Inner Sanctum Mystery started as paper magazine called Inner Sanctum, after success of radio shot it was adapted into six low budget horror movies (between 1943 and 1945) starring Lon Chaney Jr and TV series that involved second of the radio show hosts, Paul McGrath.
